DARPSP for iOS (“the app”) is an internal workspace application operated by the Protected Species Program of the Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Aquatic Resources (“the program,” “we”). The app is used by program staff and approved partners to manage program work: tasks, partner communications, marine wildlife hotline call intake, and field operations records.
This policy describes what the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It covers the iOS app, including its share extension. Signing in requires an account provisioned and approved by the program; there is no public registration.
Account information. Your work email address, name, and program role. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email; the app does not store a password.
Work content you create. The records you enter as part of program work: tasks and actions, communication logs, hotline call logs, field operations records (outreach, debris removal, monitoring, and similar), comments, and photos you attach to those records. Hotline and field records may include information about members of the public who contact the program (for example a caller's name and phone number) — entered by you, used only for program response and record-keeping.
Location (optional, per report). If you tap “Use My Location” on a report and grant permission, the app captures your device's position once to fill that report's location field. The app does not track your location in the background and never accesses location except at that explicit request.
Camera and photos (optional, per attachment). With your permission, you can take or choose photos to attach to a record. The app only receives the photos you select.
Push notification token. If you enable notifications, the app registers a device token with Apple's push service so the program workspace can notify you about mentions and assignments.
What the app does not collect. No advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, no contacts, no microphone, no background location, no browsing history. The app does not display ads and does not sell or share data for advertising. Apple may provide us aggregate crash and usage statistics through App Store Connect / TestFlight under Apple's own terms, if you have opted in to sharing analytics with app developers.
Data is used solely to operate the program workspace: showing you and your colleagues the program's work, syncing records between the app and the workspace at darpsp.com, sending the notifications you enable, and maintaining an audit trail of changes to program records as required for state record-keeping.
We do not sell personal information, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it with third parties except the service providers below and where required by law (including Hawaiʻi public records law, which may apply to program records).
Program data is stored with Supabase, our hosted database and authentication provider, on infrastructure in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to records is enforced per-account at the database level.
Push notifications are delivered through the Apple Push Notification service. Notification payloads are kept minimal.
To work offline, the app keeps a local copy of recent work data, your drafts, and any records waiting to sync in the app's private container on your device, protected by iOS data protection and your device passcode. Your session credential is stored in the iOS Keychain. Signing out removes locally cached data from the device.
Work records are program records of the State of Hawaiʻi and are retained according to the program's record-keeping obligations, independent of your account. Account information is retained while your account is active and deactivated when your affiliation with the program ends.
To correct account information, request deletion of data associated with you, or ask any question about this policy, contact us at the address below. Because accounts are provisioned by the program, account closure requests are handled directly by program staff.
The app is an internal work tool for program staff and approved adult partners. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
